Ajit Poohla set on fire

The self proclaimed leader of the Nihang Tarna Dal Ajit Poohla, who was lodged in the Central Jail here following trial in a murder case, was today allegedly set on fire by two jail inmates. Two youths identified as Navtej Singh and Harbhajan Singh had taken out diesel from a generator and set him ablaze inside his cell critically injuring him, Jail superintendent S P Singh said. Poohla was facing trial in a case regarding the murder of seven members of a family in Beas area and the accused were also facing murder charges, he said.

The Gurmat Sidhant Parchaarak Sant Samaj has vowed that they will not allow the campaign started by the followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda cult against Sant Dhadrianwale to be successful. In a press conference, senior members of the Sant Samaj said that the Sikh nations Mahaan Parchaarak, Sant Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, have held and continue to hold thousands of huge influential Gurmat Samagams through which thousands of Sikhs continue to take Amrit and walk on the Guru’s path.

Harsimrat Badal launches "Nanhi Chhaan"

AMRITSAR: To create awareness on environment and female foeticide, Punjab Government along with Sikh religious Body  Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have collaborated with a Punjab's  leading corporate house Ranbaxy for a novel project 'Nanhi Chhaan', (small plant) wherein saplings would be gifted to women devotees visiting the Golden Temple. Titled Nanhi Chhaan, the project was formally launched in a simple function from the precincts of the Galliara of Harmandir Sahib (golden Temple)  by Harsimrat Badal, wife of President SAD and MP Sukhbir Badal here today


1984 Sikh Genocide: Four sentenced to life imprisonment

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sentenced four persons to life imprisonment for their involvement into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 21,000 each on Lal Bahadur, Ram Lal, Virender and Surinder Pal Singh after holding them guilty of rioting, murder and conspiracy. Eighteen years after a trial court acquitted the four citing lack of evidence, a Division Bench of Justice Manmohan Sarin and Justice S L Bhayana reversed the order and convicted them.

PMO to Hooda: Bury ‘parallel’ SGPC issue

New Delhi: Worried that the demand for a separate gurdwara body for Haryana may become another flashpoint, the Centre has asked Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to refrain from pursuing this matter. This message, it is learnt, has been conveyed to Hooda by the Prime Minister’s Office. The Centre has not taken kindly to Hooda’s active involvement in Sikh religious affairs and his open declaration that he would constitute a parallel Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in Haryana.
