Jalandhar, May 14 A meeting organised here in a local Singh Sabha Gurdwara by Sikh Missionary College, Khalsa Panchayat and some other individuals known for their association with the cult of Kala Afghana, to foster support for Prof Darshan Singh following the hukamnama from Takhat Sri Patna Sahib declaring him 'Tankhaiya' ended up into a big embarrassment and a flop show when the management of the Gurdwara refused permission to hold the meeting inside the Gurdwara.

In a signed statement issued to the press, the president of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Urban Estate Phase – I, Commander Balvir Singh 'clarified' that permission was granted to the organizers to hold a meeting with the exclusive agenda of gurmat vichar. When the meeting started in the Gurdwara Sahib hall the president requested the present sangat to speak on the subject within the three parameters i.e. direction from Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Sikh Rehat Maryada and unchallenged supremacy of Akal Takhat Sahib.

Cdr. Balvir Singh added that however when the meeting started it was observed with dismay that they started discussing Sri Patna Sahib hukamnana about Prof. Darshan Singh. And this was clearly overstepping the declared purpose of the meeting.

At this juncture the President of the Gurdwara Committee stopped the meeting being conducted in the main hall of the Gurdwara Sahib in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and requested the participants to move to alternate site at langar hall. At this point all the Gurdwara Management Committee members disassociated themselves and worked to prepare langar for the sangat, added Cdr. Balvir Singh.

Clarifying his position the president noted that the Gurdwara Committee adhering to the supremacy of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and honoring the hukamnamas issued by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib disassociate itself from the resolutions passed by the organizers of the meeting to honor Prof. Darshan Singh. We do not subscribe to it, he added.

The organisers of the meeting were visibly upset because of the decision of the Gurdwara Management as they had to proceed with their meeting in the langar hall. Giani Kewal Singh, Paramjit Singh Sarna, Harjinder Singh Dilgeer were among others who attended the meeting. Some others who attended today's meeting are the ones who openly subscribe the views of heretic Kala Afghana and are known for their notorious views against the institution of Akal Takhat Sahib. It was a big embarrassment for the organisers.

It is noteworthy that on 8 January 2007 Sri Akal Takhat Sahib had issued a hukamnama warning Sikh sangat of the "misleading prachar" of Prof Darshan Singh. Earlier on 27 November 2006 the five Singh Sahibans passed another edict from Akal Takhat Sahib declaring those speaking against Dasam Bani as mischievous elements. According to the latest edict from Takhat Sri Patna Sahib, Prof. Darshan Singh is guilty of defying both the hukamnamas issued from Akal Takhat Sahib.

Earlier this year a Gurdwara in Jalandhar had canceled the kirtan program by Prof Darshan Singh after he made derogatory remarks about the banees of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib.

Among other resolutions that were passed in the meeting the institution of 'panj piyaras' and the 'takhats' to declare anyone as 'tankhayia' was denounced. It was also decided to honor Prof. Darshan Singh in Manji Sahib Gurdwara, Amritsar. After today's events and in the backdrop of the hukamnamas issued from various Takhats against Prof. Darshan Singh, it will be interesting to see if SGPC will now defy the institution of the Takhats and the hukamnamas and allow the use of Manji Sahib Gurdwara to honour an individual who has kept no secrets of his association with the members of heretic cult of Kala Afghana.
