The shooting for Bollywood film Sadia, featuring yesteryears' heartthrobs Rishi Kapoor and Rekha, at the Golden Temple has kicked up a storm on whether or not it amounted to maryada (code of conduct) violation. With the issue coming to the fore on March 25 when for an emotional scene shows Rishi and Rekha feeding parsad to each other inside the temple, Sikh intelligentsia have demanded the framing of dos and don'ts for film crew so as to maintain sanctity of the religious place and avoid embarrassment to devotees.

Admitting that the crew had permission to shoot inside the temple and was accompanied by staff of the information department, Golden Temple manager Harbhajan Singh said, "It was certainly a violation of maryada. Film shoots should not be allowed inside the temple. We will contemplate framing rules to avoid such violations in future."

Referring to a preliminary inquiry that was conducted, Harbhajan said, "The information office staffer said that he didn't know when the crew took this particular shot."

While Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) secretary Harbeant Singh expressed ignorance about any violation of maryada during the shooting of the film, Sikh intellectual Balwant Singh Dhillon said, "It is not a picnic spot but the most revered place of Sikhs. The SGPC staff should give a briefing to the film crew before allowing them to shoot inside the temple."

Contrary to views of the temple manager, Balwant said, "There shouldn't be any objection on shooting of scenes where actors are shown partaking in langar, performing sewa or paying obeisance but no scene should be allowed which violates the code of conduct."
